ÇOK GOTT
ÇOK GOTT is my BFA thesis project in the form a cookbook. It's based on collected recipes from different multicultural subrubs in Sweden, with the aim of shedding light on the cultural hertiage of these areas.
In today’s media we often encounter a narrative of Swedish suburbs that focuses on social vulnerability, alienation, criminality and segregation.
But this is by no means the complete picture of these areas. I wanted to challenge this portrayal and narrative by focusing on something else entirely – the food.
Swedish food is often described as being meatballs, herring and mashed potatoes. But my image of it has always been different, as I grew up in southern Stockholm,
where the food was as varied as the cultural backgrounds of its community. This cultural heritage is something I've never found represented in mainstream cookbooks,
and is why I wanted to explore it, while at the same time bringing forward stories and images that do not merely point to problems, but that also give a nuanced description of the everyday life in these areas.
